April 1st sketches

There were so many interesting faces to draw at Casbah the day I drew these... The guy who kind of looks like Rick Hunter in the second drawing from the top also looked quite a bit like a classmate of mine from catholic school - he also kept catching me drawing him. Usually, when people see that I'm drawing them, they only catch me once and very rarely look my way again. Rick here met my gaze like four times, which was not cool as it made me feel self-conscious and nerdy (I'm already nerdy enough as it is). I have yet to have some kind of confrontation with people over drawing them, but it could happen, I'm just saying... The chick in the bottom drawing with the curly hair in a bun and a scarf around her neck also had an interesting face (I was trying to figure out whether she had a middle eastern background, or was another kind of mixed, with her super pale, freckly skin and yet super curly hair), and she also kept catching me drawing her, which was annoying. She seemed to be meeting at the coffee shop with two actors on a short she was directing, and she seemed really, REALLY young. Like, she has yet to get her soul crushed/her heart broken/her face slapped, because-she-just-graduated-from-college-last-week young. Not like I'm in my 60s, but at 29, even though I'm aware of saying moronic things from time-to-time, I think the level of my arrogance and capacity to say silly, unfounded things, and make sweeping generalizations has been taken down several notches from being slapped around a bit over the last decade or so. I overheard one of the actors, a dude with somewhat douchebaggy light brown hair and a beanie, question the motivation of his character who supposedly gets shot in downtown LA. They took themselves so seriously it was AWESOME.
