San Francisco drawings

I was in San Francisco the week before last (I was visiting my brother and his wife), and had a fantastic time. I did the usual touristy stuff, but I couldn't fight my drawing addiction, so also I drew a little bit while I was there. All of these drawings, with the exception of one, were done one morning at Four Barrel Coffee in The Mission. Bon Appetit had recommended it in a recent issue, so I felt like it wouldn't be a bad idea to check it out. Though I felt like I didn't have the greatest view there, the hipster clientele were very fun to draw - there was a definite late '70s - early '80s look to the hipsters (check out the chicks with the messy buns who look like they could have been in Manhattan or Annie Hall). As far as what I actually tried while at Four Barrel, as I've mentioned before I'm not a coffee drinker, but I did try one of the donuts that they sell there from a donut shop called Dynamo Donuts, which is actually several blocks away, also in The Mission. I tried the pistachio donut - it was slightly saltly, covered in tasty chopped pistachios, not too sweet or greasy, and delicious.

The very last drawing on the bottom is of a fellow passenger on the Amtrak train I took back to LA. I think she was from some part of Scandinavia or something, and was backpacking through California (and possibly the States). Anyway, at the moment I drew her she was fast asleep, so I felt like it'd be a great opportunity to draw her.

On my last day in San Francisco, I was checking out the Sunday morning flea market in front of the Ferry Building with my brother and sister-in-law when we came across a stand of this dude who had some really dope art work on prints, books and t-shirts. My brother ended up buying a shirt of his that has a line drawing of a muni bus on it. His name is Amos Goldbaum, and his work is pretty cool and should be checked out. His line work kind of reminds me a bit of Egon Schiele's drawings.
