Casbah Cafe drawings from late February

Casbah Cafe in Silverlake is one of my favorite places to draw people - I don't drink coffee (it doesn't wake me up and it upsets my stomach) so I've never tried it there, but I do eat their pastries, which are consistently good. But I don't come for the food - I come for the patrons, who are mostly hipsters, and therefore tend to have some of the most interesting fashion sense around. Whether or not you like their sense of style, they are a ton of fun to draw, as evidenced by the amount of drawings I have after sitting at one of Casbah's tables for only a few hours. Another great thing about Casbah is that there are very few bad places to sit for drawing the people around you - the space is open and rectangular, and there's plenty of seating.

I did these drawings in the last few weeks of February - I will probably not post so many drawings at once in future posts, so this amount of pages will not be the norm.

I tend to not be precious about the placement of my figures, so you might notice some drawings that are upside down in relation to drawings on the same page, or drawings that overlap one another - I hope it's not too weird and confusing.

One of my close friends is in the second page from the top - she's the middle figure of the three people on that page, looking sassy!

Notice the guy with the shades in the fifth page from the bottom (he's on the right side of the page). Besides being very fun to draw, he also stood out for wearing extremely tight pants for an American man - even most hipster dudes don't rock such constricting threads. He'd give some Italian men a run for their tight pants money. Brave man.
